College Credit information To graduate college a student must have at least 120 undergraduate college credits. The six college credits taken in Italian would reduce this number to 114, which in turn, reduces the college bill accordingly. This holds true for any college credits obtained while in high school.
Once the college/university has accepted the Adelphi credits, these credits can be processed in one of two ways:
Non-Foreign Language Electives: The credits are used toward graduation, however, they are not language related. Which would mean, that the student would be required to take additional language courses but less elective courses resulting in a savings of up to six undergraduate credits.
Foreign Language Electives: The credits are used toward graduation and they are language related. Which would mean, that the student wouldnotbe required to take additional language courses. This is the best of both worlds for the student would be exempted from the college level language requirement and receive a savings of up to six undergraduate credits.
Currently, Adelphi University is offering six college credits for students that attend Italian Level Five at Sachem High School.
The cost of tuition for one three credit course is currently: $375.00. Please be advised that this rate is subject to change.
The cost for two three credit courses is currently: $750.00
Comparing the Costs with State Colleges and Universities
College credits range in cost depending on the institution attended. For the purposes of this example, the cost of college credits will be based on SUNY, in-state resident, tuition rates. These were chosen because they are the lowest tuition rates a New York State resident can pay.
What is not included in the cost analysis are college fees and textbooks. - Please be aware that there are no textbook or college fees associate with the Adelphi course provided at Sachem.
Suffolk County Community College

Full time study is considered 12 or more credits.
Of the 60 to 66 credits required to graduate from S.C.C.C. with a A.A. or A.S., a student is required to take six humanities credits which may include foreign language study: Graduation requirements of S.C.C.C.

At S.C.C.C. one credit is approximately: 12 / $2,435.00 = $202.92
At S.C.C.C. six credits would cost approximately: $202.92 * 6 = $1,217.50
S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook

At Stony Brook University one credit is $278.00 - excluding all other fees.
At Stony Brook University six credits would cost: $269.58 * 6 = $1668.00
